MYOPIA MANAGEMENT

Myopia or nearsightedness is when distant objects appear blurry. A nearsighted eye is more elongated from the front of the eye to the back. This happens when the eye grows at a faster rate than usual. With treatment, myopia progression can actually be slowed. “Myopia management” refers to various methods that is used slow down the progression of nearsightedness in children to keep it from getting worse as quickly over the years. If the severity of myopia continues to worsen, there is an increased risk for sight-threatening eye diseases such as retinal tear/detachment, glaucoma, myopic macular degeneration, and early cataract. Early myopia management in children can help safeguard them from moderate and high levels of myopia. It’s not just a matter of having a stronger/thicker prescription, it’s about looking out for your child’s future eye health. Here at Concept Eyecare, we offer various methods of myopia management:

  • Low-dose Atropine eye drops

  • MiSight ® 1-day soft contact lenses (FDA approved for myopia management)

  • Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) – This is a corneal reshaping hard contact lenses for night time usage. This procedure will allow potential candidates to see clearly without the use of glasses and daytime contacts. It can also be an alternative to LASIK. We utilize ACUVUE® Abiliti™ Overnight Therapeutic Lenses, which is also FDA approved for myopia management.

Comprehensive Eye Examinations

Comprehensive eye exams can determine the presence of various eye conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, binocular vision problems, accommodative dysfunction, or eye diseases, such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, etc. Regular examinations are important because, in many cases, the onset of eye problems is not ways accompanied by symptoms. Symptoms may not appear until the problem has done irreversible damage. With eye care, prevention is the key to lasting health.

Contact Lens Evaluation

A contact lens fitting and evaluation is required annually to maintain healthy contact lens wear and updated prescription. It allows the doctor to assess your visual needs and expectations or any contraindications to lens wear. It is essential in the determination of appropriate lens power and design as well as external eye health in regard to cornea, tear film, and lid hygiene.

Specialty Contact Lens Evaluation

Contact lenses are medical devices and different eyes need different types of contact lenses. Although most patients can wear soft contact lenses to correct refractive conditions (such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia), there are many patients who require custom/specialized contact lenses due to irregular corneas (i.e. scleral and hybrid contact lenses). These contact lenses are more challenging and expertise to fit.

Pediatric examination

Comprehensive eye examination is important for children in order to not only detect vision problems, but to also detect binocular, focusing, and eye movement problems. According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), "Eighty percent of all learning is performed through vision. Make sure your child has the best possible tools to learn successfully... Early detection and treatment provide the very best opportunity to correct vision problems, so your child can learn to see clearly"
